That Unique Grape
Significantly Inhibits Cancer Cell Growth

“The graying of America will swell the number of cancer patients … Today, about one in 26 Americans have had cancer. By 2020, roughly one in 19 will have been diagnosed with the disease, says Edward Salsberg, an author of the study from the Association of American Medical Colleges' Center for Workforce Studies.” |

That ‘1 in 19’ Diagnosed With Cancer?
| Dear Health-Conscious Friend;
Your health is constantly being challenged. You live in a world filled with toxins, pollutants and artificial food additives. Just look at our grocery stores – shelf after shelf full of processed foods. Our water is tainted. And the air we breathe? How pure is it really? Is it any wonder that Cancer rates continue to rise despite the “advances” in medical science? Add to that the stress you feel each day. |
|
|||
| Stress can zap you of your energy and, worse yet, destroy your immune system.
Yes, your emotions play a big part in the state of your health. Experts in this field find that it takes several hours for your immune system to bounce back after a stressful or highly emotional event. In this increasingly busy and polluted world, it’s becoming harder and harder for you to maintain a high & consistent level of energy. And to maintain a healthy immune system. |
||||
can be traced back to a mineral deficiency.
| No one can argue that with the proper nutrition you just flat-out feel better.
You have a much higher level of energy, and you can mount a much stronger defense
against any disease…even the most serious, like Cancer and Heart Disease.
Without an adequate supply and range of nutrients, you just don’t have the necessary fuel to operate at a consistently high level of energy. And as for your immune system? It can’t perform at its peak level without the required fuel. And when it doesn’t perform optimally, bad things can then happen to you. “So what’s the answer? How do I get the right nutrition in today’s ‘fast-food’ society, where the quality and nutritional potency of our food supply is diminishing? How can I boost my energy level and immune system, and fight those terrible diseases?” It’s really simple…Turn to Nature to Shape Your Health. |

| Unique Grape Skin Extract Inhibits Prostate Cancer Cell Growth in the Laboratory |
|
Laboratory experiments show that an extract of the skin of muscadine grapes can inhibit growth of prostate cancer cells in the laboratory... Using a series of human prostate cancer cells, representing different stages of prostate cancer progression, the researchers showed that MSKE [muscadine grape skin extract] significantly inhibits the growth of cancerous, but not normal, prostate cells, primarily by inducing a process called apoptosis, or programmed cell death. Programmed cell death is one of the mechanisms the body uses to rid itself of cells with unrepaired genetic damage before those cells can duplicate themselves... The chemical constituents of muscadine grapes differ from most other grape varieties, as they are richer in chemicals called anthocyanins. Anthocyanins, which produce the red and purple colors of the grapes, have strong antioxidant activity and have shown several antitumor effects, including inhibition of DNA synthesis in breast cancer cells, of blood vessel growth in some tumors, and of enzymes involved in tumor spread... Even though MSKE had significant inhibitory effects on the prostate cancer cells studied, it did not alter the growth rate of the normal human prostate cells in the lab, which served as controls... |

The work of Dr. Gary D. Stoner and colleagues at Ohio State University has demonstrated that Ellagic Acid is chemopreventive, and that extracts of fruits containing Ellagic Acid derivatives are even more powerful than the individual purified substances.
Other work at the University of Florida has also demonstrated that Ellagic Acid may help in the battle of cancer:| Induction of cell death in Caco-2 human colon carcinoma cells by ellagic acid rich fractions from muscadine grapes (Vitis rotundifolia). | |

With Nature’s #1 Source of Antioxidants…
The Muscadine Grape
| Aging may be graceful, or it may be accelerated and painful. We all want to age
slowly and maintain the highest quality of life possible.
Imagine, having all the time and financial resources to enjoy those senior years but lacking the most important thing of all … your health! Not being able to complete a round of golf with your kids, grandkids or friends. Not being able to play a few sets of mixed doubles with your spouse and neighbors. Not being able to fish! How sad would that be? And it could all be so unnecessary. You have probably heard the term ‘Antioxidants’, and that they promote good health. But do you know why? Antioxidants are substances that neutralize Free Radicals, thus protecting our cells from being damaged. And, therefore, protecting us from premature aging! You see, Free Radicals are unstable molecules with an unpaired electron that can freely react with – and destroy – healthy cells. These destructive little entities attack other molecules by capturing their electrons and thus modifying chemical structures. This process is called oxidation. Free Radicals can bind to and alter the structure of DNA, thus leading to mutations and a higher likelihood of cancer. Besides cancer, excessive oxidative stress on cells can lead to heart, eye, and neurological diseases. As its name suggests, antioxidants combat Free Radicals and, therefore, excessive oxidation. They stop Free Radicals from attacking our healthy cells and putting our body into a state of ‘oxidative stress’. Without a good defense, this excessive oxidation could lead to the progression of certain chronic and age-related degenerative disorders. |

| “Don’t I get enough antioxidants from a healthy diet?”
It is absolutely true that a diet consisting of whole foods, fresh fruits and vegetables is a great source of antioxidants. But, is your diet consistently healthy? Do you eat properly every day? Do you eat the recommended 5-9 daily servings of fruits/berries? Most of us try to eat healthy on a daily basis, but we don’t – or can’t – always do so. There are days when it’s just impossible. Travel, business, or just “everyday life” can sometimes get in the way. Our Western diet is high in calories but low in nutrition. Pesticides, food additives, other environmental pollutants and toxins, even stress, can all contribute to the production of Free Radicals. Our internal supply of antioxidants can be overwhelmed. There are just too many Free Radical scavengers invading our body! Outside help is needed!! Good news! It is now possible to easily construct a good defense against these health destroying Free Radicals with all-natural Purple Vitality, a line of Muscadine concentrates and juice. |
Is Resveratrol the Elusive ‘Fountain of Youth’?
| It has been known for years that calorie restriction increases lifespan. Eat less,
limit your foods to those that will not raise your insulin levels, yet still maintain
a normal intake of nutrients, and you will likely live longer.
But is this a very satisfying way to live your life? Eating and dining is one life’s great pleasures. Who wants to give up food even if it could help you live longer? What we all want is to be able to eat good food, enjoy our meals, and still live longer! Recent findings, however, indicate that plant polyphenols, like Resveratrol, can also increase lifespan. There is hope for people like us who prefer to eat normal portions! |
| “Resveratrol is one of the most exciting antioxidants out there, as it’s been found to extend life, prevent Alzheimer’s disease and inhibit the spread of cancer.” |
| – Dr. Joseph Mercola, leading natural health researcher |
|---|
| “There has been a flurry of scientific reports on resveratrol recently...Studies point to this miraculous molecule as a potential cure for cancer, heart disease, age-related brain disorders, and much more. Resveratrol inhibits fungal infection, raises HDL "good" cholesterol, lowers PSA levels in males, raises immunity, controls blood pressure, preserves red blood cells, prevents blood clots and inhibits inflammation. How much more could one ask of one molecule?” |
| – Bill Sardi, health journalist. |
| It has been shown that calorie restriction activates a deeply hidden protective
mechanism that is controlled by the Sirtuin 1 DNA repair gene. When Sirtuin 1 is
active, DNA can be repaired and cells live longer. Because DNA repair is improved,
the cells do not collect mutations and become cancerous as rapidly.
Dr. David Sinclair of Harvard University reported in 2003 that the Sirtuin 1 gene can be activated by the presence of resveratrol – the phytochemical widely believed to be responsible for the French Paradox (the fact that the French have far lower rates of cardiovascular disease despite their high calorie & fat diet). Recent studies by Dr. Sinclair involving mice have been shocking. There was a stunning difference between the control group and the mice that were resveratrol-fed. At one point in the study, 22% of the mice on the high-fat diet had died compared to none of the resveratrol-fed mice on the same diet! But does this study conclusively prove that resveratrol can prolong the lifespan of humans? No, not at all. A controlled study with humans would take years and years. However, the best available evidence today suggests that resveratrol does indeed improve the health and longevity of humans. And guess what – Muscadines are loaded with Resveratrol!! |
With Purple Vitality
Hypertension, diabetes, smoking, elevated LDL, elevated homocysteine levels and estrogen deficiency are some of the factors that can exert oxidative stress on our cardiovascular system. Flavonoids have been shown to be helpful in each of these conditions.
Heart disease and stroke are both lower in groups of people who consume higher amounts of flavonoids in their diets, and the risk of heart attack is lower in people who consume quercetin, kaempferol and myricetin. These are the main flavonoids found in Muscadine grapes!| Grape seed extract may help lower
blood pressure By Stephen Daniells, 3/28/2006, FoodNavigator-USA.com |
A daily supplement of grape send extract, a rich source of polyphenols, could lower blood pressure and ease the burden of metabolic syndrome, says new research… After one month, all participants taking the supplements had a significant decrease in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure...While both extracts [150 mg & 300 mg] produced similar decreases in blood pressure, the scientists observed that the 300 mg extract also reduced blood levels of oxidised LDL-cholesterol (the “bad cholesterol”), which has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease by a variety of experimental, genetic and epidemiological studies... Grape seed extracts are rich sources of antioxidants such as catechins and flavan-3-ols, and subsequent dimmers, trimers, and tetramers. These polyphenols compounds are found in highest concentrations in the seed of grapes… The news comes hot-on-the-heels of similar positive results for grape seed extracts, with Masquelier's Original OPCs (oligomeric proanythocyanidins), Anthogenol, being reported to reduce free radical damage of endothelial cells (cells that line the wall of blood vessels)... |
And guess what – Muscadines are not only high in flavonoids, but also anthocyanins, OPCs and hydrolysable tannins. Each of these groups is potent antioxidants that contribute to the protection of our vascular endothelial cells. How important is endothelial cell health? It is paramount! Endothelial cell health is important for regulating blood pressure, maintaining proper blood clotting and impeding the development of atherosclerotic plaques (the hardening and narrowing of the arteries). In other words, maintaining healthy endothelial cells is in large measure the key to avoiding coronary artery disease and strokes. Quercetin protects blood vessels. There is growing evidence that Quercetin and other flavonoids in muscadine grapes: |
|
| Promote healthier levels of cholesterol, | |
| Prevent blood clotting, | |
| Protect the blood vessel wall, and | |
| Defend the heart when it is deprived of oxygen.* | |
| * As reported in the book Muscadine Medicine by Hartle, Greenspan & Hargrove. | |
Why do the French get away with eating all the high fat foods, pastries and cheeses that we Americans are told produce heart attacks? Some believe it is because of the red wine they consume with their daily meals. Since the curiosity over this “French Paradox”, many studies have shown that Resveratrol, present in red wines and muscadines, does indeed have cardioprotective actions. Resveratrol inhibits platelet aggregation, and platelet aggregation is a major factor in the precipitation of heart attacks and strokes. |
